Compare Split Phase Induction Motor and Capacitor Start Induction Run Motor

Split phase induction motor

  • A high resistance is connected in series with the starting winding. 
  • The angle between starting current and main current is in the range of 200 to 300.
  • The starting torque is 1.5 to 2 times that of full load torque.

Speed regulation

  • The speed drops from no load to full load is in the range of 2 to 5%. 
  • The speed regulation of the split phase motor is nearly same as that the three phase induction motor therefore it is called as constant speed motor.

Power Rating

  • The wattage rating of such motor is in the range of 40 W to 250 W.

Capacitor start – Induction run motor

  • An electrolyte capacitor is connected in series with the starting winding. 
  • The angle between starting current and main current is in the range of 800 to 900.
  • The starting torque is 3.5 to 4 times that of full load torque.

Speed Regulation

  • The speed of the motor varies 10% to 100% from no load to full load.

Rating

  • It is available in the range of 1/6 HP to 3 HP.

  • Compressors

  • Conveyors
