Compare - Aligned & Unaligned Position of SRM

Figure shows the position of rotor with respect to stator in the switch reluctance motor. The comparison between aligned position of rotor and unaligned position of rotor is explained here.

( a ) Aligned Position of Rotor

  • Rotor displacement angle at 0 degree or 180 degree
  • Maximum inductance between stator poles and rotor poles
  • Zero torque
  • Magnetic circuit may saturate
  • Stable operation

( b ) Unaligned Position of Rotor

  • Rotor displacement angle at + 90 degree or – 90 degree
  • Minimum inductance between stator poles and rotor poles
  • Zero torque
  • Magnetic circuit does not saturate
  • Unstable operation
