What do you mean by Stability Factor?

 Stability Factor

Stability Factor ( S ) = dIC / dICO  ( at constant β and IB )…….. ( 1 )
Significance of Stability Factor

The collector current in the common emitter configuration is given by
IC = βIB + ( 1 + β ) ICO ……….. ( 2 )
Differentiate above equation ( 2 ) with respect to IC
1 = β ( dIB / dIC ) + ( 1 + β ) ( dICO / dIC )
1 = β ( dIB / dIC ) + ( 1 + β ) / S    ( As stability factor S = dIC / dICO  )
1 – β ( dIB / dIC ) = ( 1 + β ) / S
S = ( 1 + β ) / 1 – β ( dIB / dIC )
The equation of stability factor is
       S = ( 1 + β ) / 1 – β ( dIB / dIC )
  • If the value of stability factor greater than 25, it will result in unsatisfactory performance of transistor amplifier.
